Dear Thailand Cultural Center Visitors,
The Thailand Cultural Center International is the result of two centuries of cultural discovery. US-Siam cultural relations began before long before the US purchased California from Mexico and before the Texans fought the battle at San Jacinto and declared the Republic of Texas. Our cultural history with Siam, began when the United States of America had little more than the original 13 states.
On March 18, 1833, His Majesty King Nang Klao (Rama III) granted audience to the first American envoy,. Edmund Roberts. They signed the first official trade documents, on the 20th of March, two days after Roberts arrival. The treaty establishing commercial trade and cultural exchange between Siam and the U.S. governments. The Treaty of Amity and Commerce, established both cultural and commercial trade between the United States and the Kingdom of Siam. On May 29, 1856, The United States appointed it’s first Consul to Siam.
